Television and family circle Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Television and family circle - Essay Example This essay seeks to examine family circles in relation to humanityââ¬â¢s appreciation of use of the television. As a point of departure, the media, television included characterizes the modern world in every aspect. It is from this point of view, an argument on the impacts of media of the family circles is founded (Sari and Shay, 11). At the first installation of the TV waves, back in 1950s. Most families thronged at the supplierââ¬â¢s centers provided the services. Almost seven decades down the line, the TV plays a critical role in humanityââ¬â¢s life (Annie, 7). The aspect of family circles will be undertaken from two perspectives, which include relationship between parents and relationship between parents (husband and wife), and their children. This consideration is critical for this study because the family circle is based on the members of the family who include the parents and children. The aspect of unity and division along the family circles is a primary consideratio n. Family circle based on the relationship between parents Parents form the stem of the family from which otter members sprout. The family is the foundation of a society. All the societal virtual and vices are closely correlated to the virtues and vices of family members because the very members form the society. Initially, the TV was an instrument that united a family brought understanding and consequent societal harmony (Annie, 7). Over time now, that the social media instruments is playing roles as directed by those in the pedal. Programs that promoted morality, unity, dignity and other virtues have slowly declined and replaced by violent and crime oriented movies. In essence, every form of immorality is increasing each day with predetermined movies aired in our TVs. This implies that, there is a need for regulation or selection of programs to watch. As the televisions have come to absorb numerous socializing purposes of the family, they have provided us images of the family, whi ch may act as benchmarks by which we measure our own experiences. The seductively pragmatic portrayals of a family life in the wake of Television era may be the basis for our most popular and pervasive (Spigel, 75). The images such as violence, divorce, alcoholism and abuse seen in most families is a clear reflection of the mass media produced and distributed images shaped in a manner constrained by other features of the media world. They stems from the institutional needs, policies and interests of major needs. This implies that the primary media centers in a country can air what they deem moral right in their own facet, but in the real sense, they are immoral and preach division amongst the families who watch such programs (Spigel, 76). Gender based violence against women is a product of the media and the TV in particular. In the world of mass media, men exceed women by a ratio of seventy-five percentage to twenty-five percentage. This fact alone makes the world of primary media a s ââ¬Å"manââ¬â¢s worldâ⬠in which much action rotates around matters of power. This world is mostly governed by violent demonstrations of power characterized by the traditional emblematic platforms of authority and control, which naturally outside of home and family. Although, most of the violence occurs at homes, the familial setting does not lend itself to the societal communication of violence. Home and family

The production process developed in the particular unit is analyzed in this paper. Emphasis is given on the potentials of the Group to reduce this unitââ¬â¢s costs without affecting the Groupââ¬â¢s performance or the quality of the products involved. At the same time, the unitââ¬â¢s logistic process is reviewed focusing on the fact that the various parts of the firmââ¬â¢s cars are coming from different places in Europe and are assembled in Brussels to be then sold all around the world. 2. Production process in Volkswagen Group in Forest, Brussels 2.1 Description of the process In order to understand the performance of the firmââ¬â¢s production unit in Forest, Brussels it would be necessary to present primarily the key characteristics of the production unit involved. Then, the production process should be analytically described, as all of its phases. Finally, the phases of the process that are of key value for its success, meaning the cost management techniques and the quality management techniques as used in the specific production unit, should be further analyzed, followed by suggestions as of their potential update or alteration for supporting the increase of the Groupââ¬â¢s performance. Volkswagen Group incorporates a high range of brands (see Figure 1, Appendix). This means that the terms of operation of the Groupââ¬â¢s production units internationally need to be carefully reviewed, so that delays or failures in regard to the quality of the products (cars) are avoided. In Figure 2 (Appendix) the monthly deliveries of the Group are presented. It is made clear that the orders of customers in... This essay focuses on the examination and the analysis provided by the researcher, on the topic of the production process of a well-known corporation - the Volkswagen Group. The researcher of the essay discusses the processes that are employed in the Groupââ¬â¢s production unit in Forest, Brussels. These processes are reviewed and evaluated emphasizing on the effectiveness of unitââ¬â¢s quality and cost management. The essay aims to show that the production processes used by the Volkswagen Group organization are well organized despite the fact that the logistics management of the organization is quite challenging, since the parts of cars are sent to the firmââ¬â¢s unit in Brussels by various places across Europe and have to be assembled so that the finished product is promoted to the European market. It is concluded by the researcher that the firmââ¬â¢s production unit in Forest, Brussels, meets most requirements of a successful production unit. Still, certain changes are required so that the performance of the unit to be standardized in the long term. The evaluation of the effectiveness of a production process is quite important for estimating the current and future potentials of the organization involved. The review of the production process in Volkswagenââ¬â¢s production plant in Brussels has revealed the strengths of the specific process. It is also assumed that the firmââ¬â¢s performance in the global market, as reflected in its financial statements is highly related to the high performance of the production plant in Brussels.
Climate Change Essay Example for Free
Climate Change Essay Today we can not question the realism of the climate change because the evidences of its effects to nature are already manifesting. The melting of the ice in north pole; the hurricanes this past years; the recurring drought; extreme weather changes; the rising of sea levels; and, the strong typhoons are only a few of these evidences. Even if we continue to ignore the threats associated with climate change, we can not deny nor alter the fact that itââ¬â¢s really happening. Despite the global buzz about climate change and its consequences, many individuals are still unaware of this phenomenon. So what then is climate change? How does it affect the planet we are living in? What can we do to alleviate this problem? Giving light to these aforementioned questions is the aim of this part of my paper. The climate of the earth is continuously changing but these changes are minimal and are often due to natural etiologies. However, recently the activities of mankind have brought about rigorous alterations in the earthââ¬â¢s climate. The recognition of these alterations of the earthââ¬â¢s climate led to the establishment of the climate change phenomenon. Today, the term climate change is used to refer to the massive modifications of the earthââ¬â¢s climate due to human activities. Climate change is the alteration in the normal pattern of the weather of an area over a period of time. This phenomenon is the manifestation of the irregular deviations from the usual climate inside the atmosphere of the Earth as well as its effects on the other components of this planet like the ice caps. The period of time involved in climate change can vary from a few years to millions of years (GreenFacts). Climate change is brought about by the amplified concentration of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O), and methane (CH4) in the atmosphere. CO2 is the greenhouse gas that is abundantly released into the earthââ¬â¢s atmosphere. The high levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere prevent the normal mechanism of solar energy retention in the earthââ¬â¢s atmosphere as well as its reflection back to the space (outside earthââ¬â¢s atmosphere). In short, these so called greenhouse gases causes heat from the sun (solar energy) to be trapped within the earthââ¬â¢s atmosphere increasing the normal temperature of the earth (GreenFacts). The greenhouse gases that are significant factors in the occurrence of the climate change phenomenon are emissions of human activities like fossil fuel burning for energy purposes; forests burn-offs; and, change in the usage of land. The burning of fossil fuels is the primary reason for the presence of extensively high carbon dioxide levels in the earthââ¬â¢s atmosphere. Prior to the start of human utilization of fossil fuels the carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere was 280 parts per million (ppm). However, at present the CO2 concentration is raised to 390 ppm. Each year the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere increases by 1-2 ppm (GreenFacts). The consequences of climate change include the following: increasing seawater levels; melting of snow and ice in the mountains and polar regions; increasing occurrences of heat waves; drought; changes in the wind patterns; ocean salinity; escalating intensity of tropical cyclones; and, heavy precipitation. The climate change has enormous impact on the lives of humans and animals; the infrastructures; and, the environment. The production of food is highly affected by climate change and can cause intensive hunger in many of the worldââ¬â¢s population if not alleviated. Various ecosystems have been destroyed such as coral reefs due to warming of the seawater; mangroves affected by drought or soil erosion; and, plant and animal species lost due to forest fires. The occurrence of more disease epidemics and malnutrition are likely if extensive action is delayed. In order to stop climate change, the greenhouse gas emissions should be decreased to significant levels if not eradicated. In line with this goal, various countries have instituted policies regarding the lowering greenhouse gases release into the atmosphere. There are policies that were agreed upon and adapted by various countries but the individual countries around the world showed varied efforts in handling this problem. II. Potential policies that can address climate change There are many potential policies that can be instituted to alleviate the harmful effects of climate change and in this paper three policies will be discussed. These policies are transportation efficiency; biofuels utilization; and, carbon capture from coal power plants. Transportation efficiency is a significant policy to alleviate the climate change dilemma. This is because the transportation sector (which includes passenger cars, aviation, rail road transport vehicles, and navigation) mainly utilize petroleum product fuels that is a considerable source of carbon dioxide emission. Transportation efficiency policy focuses on increasing the diversity of fuels utilized and upholding the effectiveness of the transport systems. This policy can reduce the CO2 emission through the following strategies: promoting the usage of fuel efficient vehicles; lowering the road vehicle jamming; promotion of mass transit systems; and, advancing the efficiency of existing vehicles (Barry et. Al. , 2008). The lessening of road vehicle jamming will have a significant impact on the CO2 emission reduction because vehicles stuck in traffic jams continuously combusts fuel and release CO2 in the atmosphere. Thus, smooth road travels mean deduction in the fuel utilization and also decrease in the emission of CO2. Another aspect that will be promoted in the transportation efficiency policy is the passengerââ¬â¢s greater usage of light rail transport. Light rail transport systems utilize other forms of energy producing mechanism in their operations which means less fuel combustion and less CO2 emission. Since the transportation sector is among the primary emitters of CO2 in the atmosphere The term biofuel refers to renewable energy sources that are produced from biomass (crops purposely planted for biofuels production or plant materials from agricultural and industry wastes). The usage of biofuel as source of energy gained popularity because of its renewable nature. It is widely known as a solution to the diminishing fossil fuel supply. Recently though biofuel is considered as potential solution to the reduction of CO2 emission in relation to the alleviation of climate change. Thus, biofuels utilization policy does not only benefit the economy but most significantly it will benefit the environment. Biofuels usage aides in the lowering of CO2 in the atmosphere through replacing the fossil fuels as energy sources and absorption of CO2 present in the atmosphere. The latter occurs when crops are purposely planted to be used as biofuel materials. Plants absorb atmospheric CO2 for their growth. Thus planting biofuel crops means absorption and reduction of atmospheric CO2. Also, the production of biofuels from biomass does not produce significant amounts of CO2 (U. S. Department of Energy, 1999). The various roles that biofuels can play in the reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere verify the significance of biofuels policy in combating climate change. The coal power plants are also among the significant emitters of CO2 in the atmosphere. In United States alone, coal power plants contribute to 85 percent of the greenhouse gases released by the power sector (Geman et. al. ). Despite the high CO2 emission of coal power plants, it is still continuously used as the primary source of energy in countries like U. S. because no alternative energy source has yet been able to surpass its economic benefits. The high CO2 emission of coal power plants can be solved by the implementation of carbon capture policy. The installation of carbon capture system in coal power plants has been done in various countries. Among the pioneers of carbon capture system usage is the Elsam coal-fired power plant in Esbjerg, Denmark. The usage of carbon capture system among coal power plants can greatly reduce the carbon emission into the atmosphere without compromising the price of the electricity. III. The best policy option to address climate change In my point of view, the best policy option is transportation efficiency. This is because the realization of this policyââ¬â¢s goals will not only help in the reduction of carbon dioxide release in the atmosphere but will also ease the travel experience of passengers; reduce the transportation costs; and, safeguard public health. The transportation sector is the third major emitter of CO2 in the atmosphere. Thus, ensuring that the transport sector emits significantly reduced amounts of CO2 is equivalent to decreasing a huge percentage of the total CO2 emission. The transportation efficiency policy though has a high complex nature because it encompasses infrastructures like road and light rail stations; vehicle manufacturing; traffic regulations; and, fuel policies like alternative fuels. The complexity of these strategies needed for the transportation efficiency policy implementation though is worth all the effort because of this policyââ¬â¢s vast benefits. The dilemma on climate change though can not be alleviated by the implementation of only one policy. The complexity of this problem necessitates the execution of various policies and strategies as well as cooperation of all the nations around the world. Even though some countries already practice methodologies to combat this problem, if other countries will not reduce their greenhouse gases emissions the problem will continue to get worse. A unified action the nations of the world is needed to significantly resolve climate change. Works Cited Barry, J. and Allen, A. M. IMPORTANCE OF ESTABLISHING EFFECTIVE CUSTOMER CARE: A customer is an individual or group of individuals to whom you supply one or more products or services. (Smith, 2004:6). Customer care involves putting systems in place to maximise your customers satisfaction with your business. It should be a prime consideration for every businessà your sales and profitability depends on keeping your customers happy. (Business Link, 2010). The success of any business is hugely depended upon providing effective customer care. Customer care is all about customer satisfaction. If an organisation can make an experience as a memorable moment, then there will be more return customers. Establishing effective customer care gives the organisation a high return and also the profit. Loyal customers are the one who are to be given extra care as they are worthy. In this competitive world, the competition in the market is also very high. Customers are demanding for good service, good response to the complaints, and are demanding for extra bit of attention. Thus it is necessary for the organisation to prove a point to the customer that they really care for their customers. The expectations of the customers have been constantly rising. To meet these expectations, the organisation must consistently analyse the level of service. If the requirement is not fulfilled by the organisation, then it will become a hurdle for the progression of the sector. Guests who are not satisfied will spread the news which will also create many obstacles to the business. Effective customer care is important in order to get repeated guests and also the guest tends to refer their friends also. This improves the sales and also the profit of the organisation. The reputation and the image of the organisation are improved if the customer care is good. This in turn brings more shares in the market. Especially the internal customers i.e. the employees get more of job satisfaction by caring the customers. The main goal of establishing effective customer care is satisfying or delighting the customers. It also helps to exchange more information, maintain a good relationship, trust and also to decrease the workloads and costs. In hospitality industry, customers are the king. Effective customer care will benefit the customers in many ways. It is one of the important parts of marketing mix. Quality in service will give more loyal guests. It also ensures that the services and products delivered to the customers will be of good quality. Thus, establishing effective customer care in hospitality industry is very much important for improving the growth of the organisation. EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CUSTOMER SERVICE POLICIES: The evaluation of the effectiveness of customer service policies is an important factor to increase the growth of any organisation. The evaluation shows how the policy implemented influences the organisation. Even though most policies are practically followed only after careful considerations, there are always chances for misleading factors which might give more cons then pros for the policy. A simple example can be the usage of man power for the different sections of a hotel. Using more people for work which takes more time to be done can be a simple and effective solution. An effective customer service strategy has to be followed with considerable modifications based on the customer and their needs. Each customer is unique, so are their needs. In a customer service based roles, the colleagues will develop the capacity to differentiate the types of customers. If the situation permits, more importance can be given to customers with a higher value and who are more prone to be a regular customer. This just ensures that the specific customer goes through a different level of service hence providing equal service to all the customers. Excellent customer service is achieved when the customer is provided with what he/she wants even before they use it. The needs of the customer and how these needs are to be met with are meant to be determined. Exceeding the customers expectation always frames a name for the organisation. These needs are to be met with great care and also with consideration for other factors like cost and profit. Creating a name in the market is one challenge and maintaining it for years is a more challenging feat. The colleagues should have a good knowledge about the service the hotel can provide and also the capacity with which it has to be provided. Training for the employees should be focused and taken care of. The organisation must meet the needs of the employees and respect their decisions and ideas must be considered. Quality control is often achieved not by intensive supervision, but by building a sense of pride and the ability to work as a team. A proven method to increase the customer service skills of the employees is by sheer encouragement. This can be in any forms, as in increasing the bonus, the status in the organisation or even organising a special event. In a nut shell, happy employees provide excellent service, thus making the customers happy and make them come back again. This increases the profit and also the bonus for the employees, which makes them happy. This cycle is very crucial for any customer based organisation to stand out from the crowd.

Neurosurgeon and Patient :: Neurology Medical Health Essays
Neurosurgeon and Patient Brain injury is an unexpected and complex disability. The brain can be damaged in many ways: as a result of an accident, a stroke, alcohol or drug abuse, tumors, poisoning, infection and disease, hemorrhage, near drowning, AIDS, and a number of other things such as Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and Alzheimerââ¬â¢s disease. The human brain is one of the most vital and complex organs in the human body. It is where we store our thoughts, feelings and all of our learned behavior. The parietal lobe is the lobe of the cerebral cortex that is at the top of the brain, which processes information in reference to touch, taste, pressure, pain, and heat and cold. The parietal lobes can be divided into two functional regions. One involves sensation and perception and the other is concerned with integrating sensory input, primarily with the visual system. The first function integrates sensory information to form a single precept (cognition). The second function constructs a spatial coordinate system to represent the world around us. Individuals with damage to the parietal lobes often show striking deficits, such as abnormalities in body image and spatial relations (Kandel, Schwartz & Jessel, 1991).Damage to the left parietal lobe can result in what is known as "Gerstmann's Syndrome." This syndromeââ¬â¢s effects include right- left confusion, difficulty with writing (agraphia) and difficulty with mathematics (acalculia). It can also yield disorders of language (aphasia) and the inability to perceive objects normally (agnosia). Damage to the right parietal lobe can result in neglecting part of the body or space (contralateral neglect), which can impair many self-care skills such as dressing and washing. Right side damage can also cause difficulty in making things (constructional apraxia), denial of deficits (anosagnosia) and drawing ability. (Kimura,D.1977) Bi- lateral damage (large lesions to both sides) can cause "Balint's Syndrome," a visual attention and motor syndrome. This is characterized by the inability to voluntarily control the gaze (ocular apraxia), inability to integrate components of a visual scene (simultanagnosia), and the inability to accurately reach for an object with visual guidance (optic ataxia). Special deficits (primarily to memory and personality) can occur if there is damage to the area between the parietal and temporal lobes. Left parietal-temporal lesions can effect verbal memory and the ability to recall strings of digits (Warrington & Weiskrantz, 1977reland et al.
Buffalo Soldiers in the West Essay -- essays papers
Buffalo Soldiers in the West Throughout American history, African Americans havenââ¬â¢t had too much say in whether or not they belonged in the United States or not. Slavery without a doubt had a great impact upon their decisions. However, despite their troubles, African Americans have paid their dues and have made an impact on our armed forces since the Revolutionary War. African Americans have fought to preserve the rights for Americans, as well as having to fight the war within their very own country to gain the right to fight for their country and their individual freedom. Approximately sixteen months after the end of the Civil War, an Act of Congress entitled the Buffalo Soldiers ââ¬Å"An Act to increase and fix the Military Peace Establishment of the United Statesâ⬠. Which authorized the formation of tow regiments of cavalry to be composed of colored men. This act was approved on July 28th, 1866. On September 21st, 1866, the 9th cavalry regiment was activated in Greenville, LA, along with the 10th cavalry regiment, which was activated at Fort Leavenworth, KS. Even though the African American soldiers clearly distinguished themselves as soldiers, they were by no means wanted in the army. Shortly after General Washington took command of the Army, the white colonists decided that not only should no black slaves or freemen be enlisted, but that those already serving in the Army should be dismissed. The colonists didnââ¬â¢t enjoy the black soldiers in the army because they felt that blacks werenââ¬â¢t smart enough and as well trained to handle themselves in battle. In turn, would only be taking up space and food for the other soldiers who they felt were more equipped to fight with the army in major battles. The colonists would probably have kept Blacks out of the military during the war if it were not for the proclamation by the Lord of Dunmore. His statement was, "I do hereby... declare all... Negroes... free, that are able and willing to bear arms, they joining his Majesty's troops, as soon as may be, for the more speedily reducing this colony to a proper dignity." This meant that any black soldiers willing to fight for the British would be declared legally free. Therefore, the Americans couldn't afford to deny Black Americans, free or not, from joining the army. Less than a month after Lord Dunmoreââ¬â¢s proclamation, General George Washington officially revers... ...the Union army. Unfortunately, Abraham Lincoln was more concerned with political relations than the treatment of African American slaves. The federal government and the Union army only began to adopt a policy of allowing and even encouraging the recruitment of Blacks. Then, it became clear that the war would be a long and drawn out conflict in which it was necessary to mobilize all the resources possible and to weaken the enemy as much as possible. Even then Black troops weren't really used. In July of 1862, Congress authorized the use of black soldiers in the Civil War, but there was no follow-up of that order until January 1, 1863 when Abraham Lincoln put the Emancipation Proclamation into effect. It was never known for sure why the black soldiers were thought as Buffalo Soldiers, but some say that the Indians saw a resemblance between the black manââ¬â¢s hair and the mane of a buffalo. Others thought that when a buffalo was wounded or cornered, it fought ferociously displaying unusual stamina and courage. The Indians felt their fighting spirit in was equivalent to the buffalo, which to them is an animal held in high regard. Bibliography: www.yahoo.com www.google.com

Joseph Heller
In his 1961 piece, Joseph Heller in a subtle way brings an exclusive attention of the readers to the experiences of the world wars to the soldiers. Heller uses the Second World War and John Yossarian, the protagonist as case studies in this milieu. The story transmitted in a third person narrative illuminates the experiences that make Yossarian afraid to continue serving as a soldier. It remains an enlightening piece that divulges the inner spirit of a soldier when masked with fear, more so having seen his or her colleagues die dreadfully. As the narration commences, the story is told within the hospital buildings where Yossarian is hospitalized. The doctors examining him are puzzled with his condition, which means that he would be pretending. They make a determination that if he would be jaundiced, they would treat him, but if not, they discharge him. Explicitly, Yossarian is faking sickness, but in an intelligent manner. It seems that in his mind, the hospital is safe to take solace since liver problems take time to treat. Nurse Duckett signs a note to give him some pills, but interestingly, the liver pain had healed, yet no doctor realized it. Yossarian is the center of the story and everything is deflected from his perspective. Innately, he is determined to remain safe at all times. However, the story is not told in a chronological order, and therefore, the readers must collect all the jaunts together to comprehend what it all implies. It uses flashbacks and presages to depict what happens. For instance, Yossarian is troubled with the memories of Snowden case where a soldier was killed awfully, and as a result, he has lost the aspiration to continue participating in the war. He is more perturbed and feels weak, something that happens with many soldiers on the battlefield. The same applies to other characters such as Dunbar who similarly stay with him in the ward. He wants to stay longer in the hospital by engaging in various boring activities to pass time. Indeed, the hospital setting has become a better place for them. Yossarian has made up his mind to remain in the hospital for the remaining time of the war, and writes a letter to different people known to him, but never tells them the reasons. Having realized that being insane can work for him, he pretends to be insane in order to be discharged from the military service. He is surprised that by claiming that he is insane is a proof that he is actually sane. The readers can see the way a soldier suffers emotionally in the military camp, even if expected to be strong. In conclusion, the story portrays the diverse points of views that the readers can relate to. It gives a pointer to the minds of the characters that depict the inner world of a soldier. It carries the audience with mixed reactions while interacting with the events. Certain events are funny, while others elicit pity. Yossarian is shaken by the storms of the experiences of the war and uses numerous tactics to get himself out of the military service. For instance, he fakes his prolonged stay in the hospital. When he also tries to pretend to be insane, he is openly caught. Rightly, the story compels the readers to see much inside a soldier's heart than just what is seen from outside.
